the land of Legos
Well he’s been begging for years and finally my son A~ got his deepest wish… a visit to Legoland. It’s actually a pretty cool theme park with something for everyone. Here’s a few of the highlights:
There’s an area called MiniLand where entire cities are recreated in Lego. My favorite part was the Victorian houses of San Francisco.

Scattered throughout the park are animals made of Legos. The funny thing is, at first it’s amazing and I’m taking pictures of everything. By the end we’re like, “oh look, there’s another Lego animal. yawn.” But I thought the panda was especially realistic looking.

Zeeb and R~ really liked the driving school where they could drive kid-sized Lego cars and earn a lego drivers license.

All in all, it was a very good day. We even saw the sun, a first since we got to California.
So here’s an odd thing… ever since we got here Zeeb has been talking about Vietnam a lot. At first we thought it was because of the plane ride, but now I think it has more to do with the scenery. I mean he sees stuff like this and I’m thinking it looks oddly familliar to him…

Don’t you think it sort of has a SE Asian feel to it? I can totally see why there’s such a big Cambodian (and Vietnamese too, I think) community in southern California.
So Zeeb keeps saying stuff like “go home to Vietnam” or “Mom, that Vietnam” (pointing at something out the window) and then once today he said something that sounded like, “Mom, Vietnam sad.” My best translation of that one was “I was sad in Vietnam” because he did not look at all sad when he said it. And he was pretty sad when he was with us in Vietnam. But for all I know he was saying something totally different and I’m off by a mile. When he says “go home Vietnam” I wonder if maybe he thinks the hotel is Vietnam because that’s the last time we were in a hotel with him. Probably it’s a combo of all three – the airplane, the scenery, and the hotel. Because before this trip he almost never said anything about Vietnam. Anyway I hope we’re not messing with his head too badly.
