Day 3 of NaNoWriMo and I’ve written (drumroll please…) 6, 315 words! Go ME!
I am slightly more than 1/10th of the way to the goal of 50,000 words by November 30th. Which means, I am slightly ahead of the game right now. And that’s good, because I anticipate becoming rather behind the game by the end of next week.
Why?
Well, let’s see… it could be because as of November 8th (that would be next Thursday) I will be officially in charge of my 12 year old K~’s education. Yep, I’ve done the deed. I’ve taken the plunge. The paper is signed. There’s no going back. As of the end of the first quarter of middle school, K~ will be leaving the confines of public school behind and entering the world of the homeschooled. I’ll be the one breathing into a paper bag in the corner over there. No, kidding, this was my decision so obviously I’m okay with it! The stress for me now is putting together a curriculum that is challenging, fun, interesting and yet also closely parallels the topics covered by the middle school so that should we decide to re-enroll her next year she will be able to re-enter without too much difficulty transitioning. No problem! Okay, a few minor problems. Like the math curriculum I liked doesn’t match her current “Integrated” math at all. And the science curriculum I like seems to be off by a year and I honestly don’t know what they are supposed to cover in 7th grade science because her teacher never handed out a syllabus for the school year. Other than that though, we’re good to go! Language Arts is in the bag anyway - K~ is going to do the kids version of NaNoWriMo!! Won’t that be fun?! I was super excited about it because K~ *loves* to write and generally brevity is her biggest challenge so I figured babbling on for about 30,000 words would be a piece of cake. But, today when K~ sat down to write she got very frustrated at the idea of not editing herself and decided she can’t do it. Yeah, not the best of starts. But then, it’s Saturday and she had a friend spend the night last night so she’s tired and cranky and hopefully she’ll do better when she’s home on a weekday and the other kids are at school and she can just focus and write all she wants. Let’s go with that theory, shall we?
So besides jumping head first into the world of homeschooling what else is going on? Oh let’s see… my in-laws are coming for a visit - next week! Thursday, in fact! And they are staying for a week. And they want to take a quick trip to Canada over the weekend so I need to get something booked for the 8 of us at the very last minute. No problem!
Other than those two minor things, everything around here is normal. Which means that things over at VVAI have been off the charts crazy this week; I’m still holding onto the everlasting cold and R~ got it too and stayed home from school 3 days this week and still seems to be running something of a low grade fever; I just realized that I am overdue getting Zeeb back to the doctor for his Hep B titer check (the first one showed no immunity even though he got all the shots in Vietnam, so we’re redoing the series); I’m also overdue in making the kids’ dental appointment; we just got a reminder about Zeeb’s annual post-placement report that’s due in January… but did I mention that I’ve written 6, 315 words? Go ME!
