a little more cute

By Christina

Couldn’t resist, had to share this story while it’s still fresh in my mind…

Zeeb does a lot of phoneme replacement — using the wrong consonant at the beginning of a word. Instead of “work” it’s “D-urk”, instead of “Christmas” it’s “Fristmas”. And instead of wishing he could “grow up” he wishes to “Frow up” (which sounds just too much like something else and therefore grosses me out every time he says it…) There’s a lot of them, and “F” seems to be a common sound he uses as a replacement. Generally I try to correct him and have him say the right sound. I say, “No it’s ‘Guh-Guh-Grow up” and he’ll repeat, “Guh-Guh…Frow Up”.

So last night, K~ made dinner, almost completely by herself. (I know! How cool is that?!) She made this awesome homemade (as in not from a box like mom does) macaroni and cheese with chicken. Everyone loved it and Zeeb ate his very quickly – well, at least the macaroni part. He gobbled up the noodles and left a pile of chicken on his plate. So when he asked for seconds on noodles I said, “first you have to eat your chicken.” Not the answer he was hoping for. Zeeb looked at his plate rather despondantly and says, “Oh Frap.”

Yeah, I don’t think we’ll be correcting his pronounciation on that one. ;-)

Pretty cute! I don’t think I’d be correcting him either. When our oldest was learning to talk she had a hard time with “R”s and one of her favorite words was “fork” – not a good combo =).

Made me laugh out loud! Love it. I agree with Gretchen- I now have a new favorite expletive. Thanks, Zeeb! So much more appropriate than my previous favorite!

Ha! That’s hilarious. And awesome job K for making the dinner!

Ava is recently on a big “don’t step on a crack, or you’ll break your mother’s back” kick and refuses to step on the grout, only the tiles themselves. So, of course Sera follows along with “don’t step on crap”. Yeah, I can’t help but laugh.

It’s so interesting to listen to them acquire English, isn’t it?

    Oh Frap-

Now, just where did he learn that???

  13. Christina Says:

Gretchen and Michelle – it’s my new favorite too. And yeah, Jena, I know exactly where he learned it (um, but with the traditional “C”…)

Rachel – I’d be busting up if I heard Zeeb say “don’t step on crap” – and around her (with 2 dogs) it would be hard to know if he was misspeaking! LOL.

Too. too. too funny!! Oh, I needed that. I love it when kids mess up words, bound to be good for a laugh or embarassing somebody.
