Whoo Hoo, check me out, finally remembering to do Quick Takes on the right day and everything!

A few years ago, during A’s last season of Little League, we had the worst weather. I swear it rained for every practice and every game. Personally I would not have minded if a few were cancelled on account of the weather. But nooo, his coach was Dedicated and so the kids played a lot of baseball in the rain. There were also a lot of thunder storms that spring, which is somewhat unusual for Washington state. And even though there was a league rule about not playing under the threat of lightning, he wouldn’t cancel unless the storm was right on top of us. Which really ticked me off. I mean we’re talking kids holding METAL BATS in a THUNDER STORM. Doesn’t that seem just a wee bit dangerous? I’d keep A in the car as long as I could and then sit there next to the batting cage praying the storm would pass and preparing to jump up and grab my kid at the slightest sign of danger. I’m sure all the other parents thought I was overly paranoid. But when I see news stories like this one? I find myself wishing I’d just taken him home and not worried what other people thought.

Did my blog load faster than usual today? No? Well, it did for me because now we have FIOS. Ta DA! Okay so I didn’t actually notice any difference whatsoever in my internet speed this morning. But I’m sure it’s BETTER because Husband says so. Also we dumped D*rectTV which resulted in also dumping Tivo because now we have a DVR with the Fios thingy. Which is weird and means I have to reprogram everything. But I have more channels! Including a channel I have never heard of called AmericanLife. And why do I care about that? Because it’s like TVLand, only better! I know it’s sad and a sign of how Extremely Old I am, but I much prefer the old sitcoms from the 70′s than the stuff that’s on today. My current favorite is The Bob Newhart Show, which I never actually watched as a child but totally entertains me now. Go ahead, mock away, I can’t hear you, I’m in my Happy Place here in 1975…

Nine days of school left. Just nine more days. Which at this moment feels like an Eternity. I swear I’m more eager for school to end now than I was as a kid. I’m just SO tired of the routine and the million trips to the bus stop and the homework. I need a vacation!

But I reserve the right to start wishing the kids could go BACK to school sometime around late July. But that is partly because in the fall all four kids will be in school ALL DAY. Which will be the first time I’ve had a full day to myself since 1902. Practically. And I’m sure I’m going to regret announcing this to the whole world wide internet but I’ve resolved that I shall use at least part of my days to write. Like a Real Writer. Which has me both very excited and also extremely nervous. Because what if I suck? There will be no excuse for it then. And I shall have to stop telling everyone that I am going to be a Great Novelist when I grow up. And that would be very sad.

I have a Very Big Problem. I have no idea what to wear to my reunion and exactly one month to shop. I need both a casual Friday night outfit and a more formal-ish Saturday night outfit. I have neither. And don’t even know what I’m looking for. Because I have like zero fashion sense. I wish I had the eye for fashion and the sewing abilities of Jena. Did you see the dress she made? Barring a miracle wherein I turn into Jena and make my own awesome dress, I need some help from you my friends. Where should I shop? How should I dress? I need serious help here people!

Did I mention that we bought a trampoline? Which may be proof positive that I have lost my mind. And perhaps I should go ahead and map out the route to the emergency room right now before Husband even puts the thing together. But we got the Springfree which is supposed to be the safest kind known to man. So that should count for something, right? We’ve talked about getting one for years. They’re great exercise and also I’ve heard they are very good for relieving stress. And now that R is getting into gymnastics, it will be nice for her to be able to practice some stuff at home. (Nothing too upside down or dangerous, because I am the Paranoid Mom after all). Plus also? This woman at gymnastics told me a mom in her neighborhood started working out on one and got Crazy Toned in like a matter of months. Not sure how much good it will do for me in 3-4 weeks, but I’ll take all the help I can get.

I went with all your great advice and decided to have R and Zeeb share a party at the bounce place. It’s next Friday night. And it turns out that it’s a very good thing they are sharing a party because so far Zeeb has only had 2 friends RSVP that they can come. Maybe he would have had a better turnout if I let him invite the whole class, but we did invite 12 kids. Anyway I figure with R’s friends there he won’t really notice so much, maybe. And with all the bouncy toys and cake and stuff, he’ll be having too much fun to care, right? Say “Right” because now I’m starting to worry about what happens when R has a big stack of presents to open and he has just a few…

“I can’t hear you..” cracked me up! Those were some of the most enjoyable quick takes I’ve read…take that as at least one person affirming you to go write a real live novel.
Good luck with the party. You could just “run out of time!” for opening the presents at the actual party and split them up evenly when you get home

The incident you mentioned in #1 happened in my town, some of my friends were there. It was really sad and, like you said, I now will not feel bad for leaving at the first hint of any danger.
Good luck with the dress, the party, reunion, and all that

Days all to yourself???? Wow, what that must be like. I have to say, part of me really does want to get stuff worked out with the school for my oldest two. I realize it won’t result in days all to myself, but it will result in days with fewer people needing me all at once all the time. And the reunion wear? Oh my word. I don’t even want to shop for mine because it is too depressing to try to dress this body. Maybe I need to go jump on our trampoline. Which reminds me, we’ve had ours for a little over a year now, and no trips to the ER so far. Do you have the big safety net on yours? I’m assuming you do. They rock, really.

Ugh 9 more days! That is pure torture. Of course, today my middle son actually said the dreaded words to me: “I am bored.” This was 24 hours after the last day of school, mind you. I am in trouble.
Black for the reunion! And yay for the class of ’89! I wish I could go to mine.

You have FIOS?!? I am so jealous!! If we had FIOS my husband would stop chasing down the Verizon trucks.
