1. I frittered away my morning reading political blogs and doing some background study for my novel (which, okay, is not writing and is not even the creation of a stinkin’ outline for goodness sakes, but did feel “productive” and so that counts toward MamaNaNo, I think.)
2. In other words, I spent my morning thoroughly enjoying the absolute SILENCE of an empty house. Between Zeeb and R being home with the swine for a combined total of 9 school days and Hubby working from home twice this week, today is the very first day in two weeks that I have had the house to myself. Oh how I missed it. And wow is silence quiet.
3. My SIL is now about 4 days past her due date. They’ve been calling the baby “Grover” due to some funny story about them thinking up baby names while lying under a fuzzy blue blanket or something. I think I’m going to have a hard time remembering his/her real name when the time comes. And don’t you know that kid better like Sesame Street because s/he is going to be getting stuffed Grover toys and other such themed items for a long long time to come.
4. I thought about posting this video on FB for SIL. Being that it stars Grover and is about waiting. But I kind of doubt she’s ever read Waiting For Godot. And that takes most of the funny out of it. Have you ever read that play? We read it in AP English back in high school and while we never really understood the point of it, the play sure did give us some lines to use and re-use that year (and, ever since, so long as I’m around someone else who has read/seen the play). “Let’s Go.” “We can’t.” “Why Not?” … funny stuff…
5. Tonight, in Seattle, there is going to be a party in honor of the release a new photo-book titled “Grunge” featuring one of the few Seattle “grunge” bands still playing, Mudhoney. K loves this band – she wears their t-shirt all.the.time. If I could buy her a ticket and fly her out there for the concert, I totally would. I was hoping I could at least find a way to get the book autographed (by the band) for her. But alas, I am not as resourceful as I imagine myself to be. Unless… any chance there’s anyone from Seattle stumbling upon my blog who wants to make a 14 year old girl’s dreams come true??? If so, please please email me ASAP!
6. I keep meaning to do a post listing some of our favorite old or obscure family-friendly movies but never get around to it. Today I’ll just share our latest discovery: Leave It To Beaver. The first season is on netflix instant download and we’ve been watching a couple of episodes at a time. Even though I was familiar with the show I’m not sure I ever watched a full episode before. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how entertaining the show is, for all of us. The plots are creative and funny and have little “lessons” for the younger kids. And there’s some extra humor for the older ones in that times have changed quite a bit in the last 50 years and there’s some words and phrases and aren’t exactly “PC” anymore, or even have the same meanings they once had.
7. I lied. These quick takes took me more than an hour. I really don’t think I’m capable of “quick” quick takes. Meanwhile I have a floor to mop, laundry to fold… wife to murder and Gildar to frame for it. I’m swamped!
Have a good weekend everyone. And check out more quick takes here.

You made me laugh out loud at the Princess Bride reference. Your family if like the only other one that knows that movie (and uses it phrases) like we do! We use “anybody want a peanut?” and “everybody MOVE” quite often. Don’t know why..
I was thinking about your family movie list, and wonder if you thought about the old “Herbie” movies? I loved them when I was younger.
We also LOVE the Princess Bride and I can’t even count how often we quote it!
