Zeeb this morning over breakfast: “I like having A~ for a big brother.”
Me: “Oh good. Why?”
Zeeb: “Because he pays me fifty or twenty cents to get rid of stink bugs.”

Dear Radio News Announcer Guy,

Did you know that I really like watching Olympic figure skating?  A lot.  I recorded all four hours of the Olympics last night, just so I can watch the skating.  For some annoying reason the figure skating did not even START until 10pm.  Which, when you have to get up at 6:30, is somewhat late.  And the best skaters?  Were on last.  Of course.  But I figured, no problem, I’m taping it, I can just watch the rest tomorrow.  But then what did you do this morning at 9am?  You TOLD ME WHO WON THE GOLD.  Without any warning or anything.  Thanks for taking all the suspense and excitement out of an event that only happens once every four years.  You stink.

I’m on a quest for some good new computer/DS learning games for R and Zeeb.  (Most of our old computer games won’t work on Windows 7.  There were some great games that you can’t get anymore.  I am bummed.)  I found one for Zeeb called ItzaBitza - it’s an interactive drawing game that is supposed to also help with early reading skills.  It won a bunch of awards and at this point, I’ll try almost anything. So far (after 3 days) he really likes it and keeps asking to play.  The jury’s still out on the reading part.

For R~ I want to find fun learning games she can play on her DS.  It seems like most games targeted for her age are total fluff, and annoying fluff at that.  I’d really like to find a mind game that helps with attention and focus, but all of those seem to be targeted to adults.  Any ideas?

Dear Radio Announcer Guy,

I forgive you.

Dear Verizon DVR,

You have a very sick sense of humor.  Cutting off the recording in the middle of  Plushenko’s skate?!  Seriously?!!  That’s just rude.

I have to say, knowing nothing about the intricacies of scoring figure skating, I thought Johnny Weir was robbed.  That guy knows how to perform. His routine was moving and artistic and his jumps were beautiful… just one little wobble on a spin.  No worries Johnny, you’re going to make big money on the pro tours… K~ *loved* his “Poker Face” routine at the U.S. Championship exhibitions.

My other favorite who didn’t make the podium was the French skater, Florent Amodio.   I didn’t exactly get the flow of the music, but parts of it were really fun and funky and distinctly un-stuffy, where most of the other skaters used the old stand-by classical and sappy easy listening pieces.  And also, he’s not bad to look at either.  ;-)   (Yes, he’s young enough to be my kid.  Your point?)
