1. Last night when I went into Zeeb’s bedroom to say good night (Daddy had already done the heavy lifting and his lights were out), I heard him talking to himself animatedly. So I asked Zeeb who he was talking to. His answer? “My indisible [invisible] friend.” My kid cracks me up.
2. This weekend Hubby and I are leaving the three younger kids with the grands while we take K to visit her college. Yes, you read that right. My 14 (but she’ll be 15 by the fall) year old is heading off to college next year! She’ll be in a special program which is sort of a hybrid between boarding school and college, just for gifted girls at a school a couple of hours away from here. After months of essays and tests and general application stress, we found out she was accepted a couple of weeks ago. This weekend she gets to sleep overnight in the dorm and then go to class on Monday morning, as a sort of preview, while Hubby and I get to attend talks about financial aid. But the part I’ve been fixating on is that we also get to stay in a nice hotel (special college rate) BY OURSELVES. It’s no trip to Aruba, but I’ll take it!
3. This college opportunity is a blessing for a lot of other reasons other than a bonus night away, of course. To think we knew nothing about this program when we decided to move to Virginia. Just one more example of how little we see, and how much bigger God’s vision is.
4. Yesterday at Costco I impulsively purchased Jillian Michaels 30-day Shred video. Is this “The Shred” that everyone talks about? And does it really work? And could an uncoordinated sort like me actually do it? I’m afraid. But I really need to do something to kick my rear in gear. This has been a winter of very little exercise and a rather lot of snacking.
5. I’m still working on my photo framing project. I put it off until today because Kodak sent an email saying they were going to have a Huge Awesome Deal today. But it’s just 10 (hey, where did the cent symbol go?) cent prints which doesn’t help me at all. Anyway. So I am going through old family photos my mom scanned and gave me a few years back and I just found this gem:

That’s my grandpa, on the occasion of his first communion, back in 1925. Don’t you just love it? It’s like a family picture and pure art, all in one. You can practically hear the 1920′s Italian-American soundtrack playing in the background.
6. Oooh wait! This one’s even better.

Is this not the awesomest old time photo ever? And should I be worried that perhaps I come from a family of alcoholics? Good golly, check out that toddler with his arm around the keg! I totally think this picture would be at home on the wall of Cheers.
7. Hubby’s coming home in just a few minutes, so I should go. It’s family movie night. Tonight’s options: Episodes from season 1 of Dr. Quinn, or The Velveteen Rabbit. It’s anybody’s guess which will win the vote.

We’re doing the Blind Side for family movie night.
YAY for K!! I was actually just wondering what happened with that! And you are handling it so awesomely! I would be freaking out over my baby being gone from home. You are awesome! It’s a fine line between doing what’s best for your child and wanting to hold them close, isn’t it? I bet you are so proud of her!

Oh I totally want to see The Blind Side! Must add to Netflix ASAP!
Don’t give me too much credit – I’m quite certain I WILL freak out, when the time comes. Possibly even right after we get home from this college visit. I keep telling myself that while I will miss her like crazy, at least when she’s home she’ll be all mine – for like the entire month around Christmas and summers starting in May! (I know, she’ll get a job and a car and then I’ll never see her again. But I don’t want to think about that yet!)

The shred works quite well and I think you will do fine. It’s hard starting out, but she gives tips for helping you get through it and ways to bump it up a notch when it gets easier.

Very awesome about K and the school acceptance – sounds like an amazing program!
I have heard very good things about The Shred. I’m scared to try it myself, but hope to one of these days…

I did not have any luck with the Shred. I did it for 30 days. I gained 2 lbs and I screwed up my knee…but, some people do have good success.
If you start to feel like your knee is ON FIRE? Stop.

What a great opportunity for your daughter! How brave you are to let her go. Hope the weekend was great!

Congratulations K~! I don’t think I could let one of my kids go that early, though. *sniff* You are one brave mom.

Congratulations to K! I’m really excited for her.

WAY TO GO K! That’s awesome! You know, I’ve always sort of wished K had her own blog. I WOULD TOTALLY READ IT. HINT HINT.
As for the Shred, I am a fan. The first day or two totally suck, as in, forget about walking up and down stairs or sitting on the toilet. But after that it gets better and then you start to see, like, outlines of MUSCLES and you’re all, “DUDE! I KICK ASS!” And it’s only 20 minutes! How can you go wrong! You can do ANYTHING for 20 minutes, I promise. But if your knees start to burn (mine totally did in Level 2), don’t quit, just go reeeeeeeeally slow and not all the way.
Also, that is seriously the best family photo EVER. I LOVE IT. I want to print it out and pretend it’s MY family.
