This poor blog. It is so ignored by me these days. I’m just not feelin’ it, you know? Also, I’ve been spending most of my screen time working on a photo book for R’s birthday. All the pictures of her from Cambodia – before we arrived and our two month wait for her visa. That? Is a LOT of pictures. And I’m having a heck of a time weeding them out – I keep thinking “This is her history! It’s not fair to keep any of it from her!” Which, I realize is silly. Especially since I plan to finally tackle her actual Lifebook this summer.

I’m making that number two. The lifebook. I feel like SUCH a delinquent mom because I’ve never gotten around to making one for her. But now at this point I feel like we need to do it together so she can be in control of what goes in and all that. Plus I had an inspired idea to create a lifebook binder on Zazzle that we can use for her and then I can also make a generic one to sell. I like selling stuff on Zazzle way way better than yard sales. The money doesn’t rack up quite so quickly but I cry a lot less.

Speaking of photos and books, K~ got her yearbook this week. Good golly is that thing huge. It’s like the encyclopedia brittanica of yearbooks. Check this out… my freshman yearbook on top, hers on the bottom:

Granted, her school is larger than mine, but still, good golly that thing’s a whopper. The yearbook teacher/advisor guy is all about the awards and the book is packed with profiles of students and the interesting things they do. Including one about a girl who is a teenage mom, which I think took some guts, both on the part of the girl and the teacher. But then again I just heard that there’s not much stigma on teenage motherhood anymore, so maybe I’m just old fashioned? (In my expectations, not in my attitudes – I totally think a little dose of reality in the yearbook is a very good thing, and would have been a very good thing twenty years ago. I didn’t even know there were any girls who got pregnant in my high school because they were quickly and quietly removed from school and tutored or sent to the “alternative” high school.) Sheesh, from yearbooks to teen pregnancy in one quick take – talk about your bird walks!

The yearbooks came out because the seniors only have one week left of school. Sadly the rest of the students still have nearly two weeks to go. Two weeks. I’m not sure I can make it. I was totally snapping at Zeeb this morning because he could not spell hardly any of his words after working with him ALL week – I think his brain is on summer break already. And R’s just plumb forgetting to bring her homework home. And K~ overslept twice this week, including this morning. Up and dressed and out the door in three minutes. What a way to start the morning.

I hate that I snap at Zeeb. Inner me says “It’s not his fault! He doesn’t hear the “N” in “Winter”! And “brother” probably really does sound like “brud-er” when he says it.” Meanwhile IRL Me is yelling, “wINter!” “brOTHer!” Because clearly if you yell the words it will make him learn them faster. Oh thank you God that this is his last week of spelling tests for the next two and a half months.

Dude, did you guys hear about Lady Gaga at the baseball game? And no, I swear that is not a set-up for a joke. Or maybe it is, considering she stripped and gave the whole stadium the one-fingered salute. Apparently because she didn’t like all the attention from the press. Hello? Has she looked at her career lately? Crazy. Not that this has anything to do with me or life in general. I just had to share. And the cats really couldn’t care less about Lady Gaga.

Birthday Madness starts this weekend. First Zeeb’s birthday, then comes R’s birthday (and our anniversary), then K~’s birthday. All in a two and a half week span. Since Zeeb and R had a big party last year, this year they get a “special day” – an outing of their choice. In R’s case, with a friend. Zeeb wanted to invite a friend but he doesn’t really have a close friend. I mean there’s the neighbor boy but I don’t get the “best friend” vibe from him – more like the “okay, I’ll play with him, I guess” vibe. And he doesn’t like to be away from his sister and/or nanny and/or mom so that makes it rather hard to take him out for the day. So instead Hubby and Zeeb are going to spend the afternoon at the air/space museum. I think Zeeb will have a good time. I hope so. Because I *know* he’s going to whine about how unfair life is when R has her special day (with a friend) two weeks later. And I need to be able to say, “Remember how much fun you had on your special day with Daddy?” Which of course won’t stop the whining but it will make me feel better anyway.
Wahoo, I did it. Seven Quick Takes in less than an hour. I’m on fire. If one set of quick takes isn’t enough for you, head on over to Conversion Diary for lots more.

I don’t get Lady Gaga. Firstly, the term “lady” used to mean something, and if she can use it then it obviously doesn’t mean that anymore. Secondly, I guess her music is okay (the Glee kids rocked it pretty well, anyway) (though some of the lyrics! yikes!), but I don’t think it’s all that *great*. And? She is just weird. And she calls her fans Little Monsters? I mean, if kids think that’s fun or something, I’d be happy to call them all little monsters and they wouldn’t even have to pay money for my cd or concert tickets or iTunes download.
Oh! And? Two more weeks of school? Really???? When do they go back? After Thanksgiving? I guess you did have a lot of snow days, though.

We actually only have 3 snow days tacked on at the end. We made up the other ones already and got one of them (out of I think 11) waived by the state. They have this stupid rule here that schools can’t start until after Labor Day – and lately that’s pretty darn far into September – which makes the school year run really long into June. Very annoying.
And I’m totally with you on Ms. Gaga.

Wow that book is HUGE! And I think it’s super cool (in an educational/life lesson way – not in a “be like me” way) that they profiled a teen Mom. Like you, when I was in school the teens either totally lied about being pregnant or just left entirely for the alternative school. I only know of 2 girls who had babies and neither admitted it.
Did not hear about Lady Gaga. Weren’t we just talking about how there could be worse role-models? Ugh.

I’m not sure why Lady Gaga was suprised she was getting so much attention. I think anyone would get some attention if they wore a leather bikini and jacket to a baseball game. Sadly, I must admit I sorta’ love her music. “Telephone” is my ring tone. Cheesey, I know, I know. I’ll go hide and wear my “worst 30-something of the year” badge alone…
