Yes, We DID!
So guess where the Broccoli Family was today?
If you guessed hanging out with a million+ likeminded individuals marching through the streets of DC, you’d be right!
Don’t worry, I won’t talk politics on this blog… but I will share a little about the day…
What I loved:
*The creativity of the signs. Not a mass-produced one in the bunch!
*The friendliness of the people. We were there for a protest but people were not cranky – there were smiles all around and people were very considerate and friendly, even with the huge crowds and long waits for a portajohn. (Some very kind people let R go to the front of the line when the wait got just a little too long for her. Thank Goodness!)
*The spirit of patriotism. At the official start of the rally they sang the National Anthem. EVERYONE stood, turned towards the Capitol building, hands on hearts, and sang along. Awesome. And the favorite chant of the day? USA! USA! USA!
And a little glimpse of our day, in photos and video (music by Mr. Broccoli Guy! – copyright about 1990)
Do You Miss The Politics?
Just over two weeks since the biggest, longest, most expensive election season this country has ever seen already politics is fading from everyone’s thoughts.
Well, not everyone’s.
The truth is I did a lot of thinking and taking stock after the election. And one thing became very clear to me: I can’t just walk away from political blogging. I care too much and I think the issues are too important. But, Mrs. Broccoli Guy was never intended to be a political blog and I know that many of my dearest internet friends would have a hard time coming to see me here if I shared my conservative viewpoint on the day’s events too often.
What’s a girl to do?
Thankfully the wonderful Elaine came up with the perfect solution: A new forum – a place for conservative mommy bloggers to share their thoughts and analysis on issues and the political process. And then she had the genius idea to invite some of our favorite conservative blog friends to join us. The result?
TA DA!
Come and see us. Add us to your blogfeed. Even if you don’t share our viewpoints, I bet you’d have something important to add to the discussion.
The Country Has Chosen
And the majority believes Obama will bring them the change they are hoping for. Let me be one of the first to say it: Congratulations, Nicki, you were right.
May God bless Barack Obama with wisdom and the courage to do what is right, regardless of what is popular. To quote Mike Huckabee (my original first choice for president), “He was not my choice, but he will be my President and I will pray for him to lead this great nation with God’s help and grace.”
What does it say…
What does it say about Obama’s campaign that his supporters think it’s a good idea to vote for him “a couple of times”… and what does it say about CNN that the reporter replies, “I think that’s against the law but it’s okay.” ??? And how exactly can we have confidence in the vote counts coming out of these areas where this is happening?
I’m also wondering at what point the Black Panthers appointed themselves the Obama campaign’s official security force (standing guard in front of a polling station)… and is this what Obama was talking about when he said we need a “Civilian National Security Force”?
Today Is The Day: Make The News, Don’t Watch It
This day has been too long in coming! (I swear if the pundits start talking about 2012 tomorrow I will scream…) But it is finally here – it’s time for the talking heads to shut their traps and let the people speak for once.
I voted this morning and it was like voting for the first time because I’ve been voting absentee in WA state for so many years and things are rather different here in Virginia. But the line wasn’t bad at all and everything worked properly and I was proud to see so many people turning out to exercise their right to vote. Have you voted yet? If not, go do it now – trust me, it’s better to go earlier in the day than later. But whatever you do, don’t let the day go by without voting – especially if you are voting for McCain!
And a little reminder: The media that is head over heels in love with Obama is not going to suddenly go all “objective reporter” on us today. No, they are going to do what they can to suppress the McCain vote and declare Obama the winner as soon as they can. (case in point: “Obama wins in landslide (in tiny New Hampshire towns)” … reality check: That town has voted with the country exactly 50% of the time… in other words, the result no more predict the final outcome than a flip of the coin would.) The media is going to start putting out the results of exit polls and likely it will look like Obama is winning. Don’t fall for the hype. Exit polls have been shown to be extremely unreliable.
Also, as a former West Coaster I personally don’t think the news should be allowed to announce any results until ALL the polls have closed – nationwide. I know with Alaska and Hawaii being significantly behind everyone time-wise that’s not realistic to expect, but it would be nice nonetheless. I can’t tell you how annoying it is to be sitting in Washington state, polls still open, and hear the media calling the election. Talk about feeling like your vote is meaningless! (but of course you Washingtonians know this year nothing could be farther from the truth – vote McCain! And don’t forget Dino Rossi!) Anyway, I believe we won’t know TRUE results until very late tonight – or perhaps tomorrow, or heck it might even be next week depending on the types of shenanigans we might see today…
So my point is: Turn the TV/Radio OFF. Don’t listen to those “early results” – they mean nothing. Go and VOTE. And then relax, and enjoy a day of peace and quiet. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.
