My kids are considered "high risk" but we can't get it because there isn't any available. We've tried two piggy flu shot clinics. One ran out of their 500 doses before we even pulled in the parking lot, and the other didn't have doses for 35-47 month olds (Zoe is 35 months, Noah is 45). This whole thing is so freakin' frustrating! I am almost ready to find a local swine flu party to just expose my kids and get it over with while the weather is still mild.

The Tamiflu thing is so annoying! I had to visit 3 (?) pharamacies to find one that had it in stock, but I didn't realize they were rationing it so hard. That's ridiculous. They should just find some more, or import it...

Glad to know R is back on the mend...I hope it stays that way for her and that the rest of you avoid it!

Hey C-

Checking up on you. :) Love your book suggestions. I am inspired. Another book I love that tells the REAL story that kids will not get in the public schools- a book about grandma Moses. MOSES: When Harriet Tubman led her people to Freedom by Carole Boston Weatherford. You will LOVE this book and how GOD speaks to her and leads her to safety. I LOVE the illustrations and how they portray God's words. Check it out on Amazon. I have given it to tons of people. LOVE it! Glad you are all on the mend!

The sambucol isn't really a drug - it's literally berries and sweetener. That's it! It may have upset her tummy if it was already upset-ish but I'm fascinating to hear that she felt so better. I really hope it works out and you should dose up your family because it could not possibly hurt at this point and might just help prevent it for the rest of you!

Hope it stays so mild for R!

Good to know about the Elderberry. I've been running a low grade fever off and on for a few days, but I actually suspect the lovely strep I carry is becoming active rather than the flu, so I don't know if it will help. Also don't know if I can even find the elderberry stuff around here, but I'll be looking! Good luck with the turkey stuff! I think you know how I feel about crafty assignments.

LOL...I am one of those annoying teachers who sent home the cardboard turkeys! We had contests. Make some paper glasses for him and a sign that says, "I am a chicken." Voila! Easy and clever.

I am going to get some of that elderberry because son #2 is sick and is supposed to leave on a Very Expensive School Trip to D.C. in two days!!! Thanks for the tip!

OH no ...good to know about the Elderberry : )

Well, when Annslee was diagnosed on Friday they didn't want to give her Tamiflu b/c it was for kids under 5... I reminded them that she just turned 5 a few days earlier..I thought I was going to have to pull out the "we don't really know her bday" card...anyway, I told them I wanted it and of course they gave it to Coby since he is under 2. Anyway, it has worked wonders for her and luckily no signs of piggy flu with Coby yet! However, our ins co doesn't want to pay for it b/c of course there is no tamiflu anywhere so the pharmacy had to make it and the ins co is arguing it...grrrrr....

Hope you all feel great SOON!!!

YES on H1N1 vaccine - I'm a mom who had the gutwrenching experience of watching my 3 year old almost die from the seasonal flu in 2003. PICU for a week, collapsed lung, the whole nine yards. He as a child with no risk factors.

So...I just look at it this way. The flu can be mild. The flu can kill. You don't know which version your child will get. The H1N1 vaccine is made by the same manufacturers, with the same ingredients and the same methods as the seasonal vaccine. I'm A.O.K with that.

Now....my son - who had the flu so bad in 2003 - did have H1N1 two weeks ago before we could get the vaccine (the Great State of Ohio has done their usual stellar job in the administration of a BIG THING and it is almost impossible to find here). Sam was very sick for a week and it did develop into mild pneumonia, which was thankfully taken care of with antibiotics and no hospital stay. Phewwwwwwwww....

I know...my husband and I were just talking about this, how the stupid H1N1 isn't even available for people who need it. I find it REALLY maddening that people have to wait in lines for 4 hours to get it for their toddlers...so I guess that is another one that I get mad about! :)

Gardisil...I'm not nearly so incensed about. (Chicken pox I get annoyed about, too, but because it really wasn't that bad a disease and it shifted the disease curve in a rather frightening way so that now the virus that IS circulating is more serious than what WAS circulating...that is another annoyance with the government.) I feel like girls may not choose to be sexually active, but things happen beyond girls' control...lots and lots of awful things. So for that? I am more neutral (mostly because it, too, shifts the curve).

I meant to just come back here and say exactly that - that the H1N1 is really annoying because it's not available to everyone who even wants it. :) I guess I have some issues!

You know what else makes me really incensed? This:

This breaks my heart in so, so, so many ways.
